Greeting Card Printing for Birthday & Christmas Cards

If you’re not sure what size cards or invites to print for your business, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve created this all-encompassing list to show you all of our sizes so you can print cards and invites that suit your needs.

• Greetings cards – A6 (105mm x 148mm), A5 (148mm x 210mm), 148mm Square (148mm x 148mm)
• Postcards – A6 (105mm x 148mm)
• Invites – A6 (105mm x 148mm), A5 (148mm x 210mm), DL (99mm x 210mm)
• Swing & parcel tags – 85mm x 55mm

Bleed and safety – Now you know our sizes, getting started on your design is a piece of cake! After setting your artwork document to the right size, add 3mm to each side to act as your bleed area . Make sure all your important information is at least 6mm away from the edge – this stops it from being trimmed off when we cut your print down to size.

Number of sides – As invites, postcards and swing/parcel tags are all available double sided, you may wish to make the most of all that additional space. If you do choose to print double sided, please create separate files for your front and back artwork – you’ll be asked to upload them separately when you add your product to the basket.

Colours – To get a better idea of what your colours will look like when they’re printed, be sure to change the colour mode to CMYK in your preferred designing program. This shows the spectrum of colours that are additive – i.e. colours that are added to white paper and get darker the more colour is added. This is how colours are used in commercial printing.

If you can’t set this up, don’t worry! When you upload your design to the website, our proofing tool automatically changes this for you and shows you the finished result to approve for print.

Saving your artwork – we accept loads of different file types, but the best way to make sure your fonts and images are flattened to the document (and therefore won’t move around or change when a member of our team manually checks your file before print), is to save your file as a PDF or JPEG document.

All of the tips above apply to setting up a greetings card design for print, however there is a little bit more to think about when you have a design with folds.

Firstly, you’ll need to set your design up as the flat, open size. For example, an A5 greetings card will be A4 size when opened up. Split this down the middle to find your fold line.

If you’re printing a single sided greetings card (with just a front and back cover and no design inside), this is all you need to do! However, if you’re creating a design for the inside pages, you’ll need to create a separate file set up in the same way as the first. You’ll then need to upload this as side 2 when prompted by our online proofing tool.

• Suitable fonts – businesses make cards and invites for a whole range of reasons; inviting clients to an award ceremony, wishing them a merry Christmas, and even selling their design on them. Pick a font that best suits your reason for sending – for example, swooping, romantic hand script style fonts are best on cards you might be selling, whereas blocky capitals would look more professional on a corporate thank you card.
• Personal note – leave room for a personal handwritten message, whether that’s inside your card or on the back of a postcard. There’s nothing like an actual written message to show how much you care!
• Add your logo – whether you’re selling your card designs or sending them out to customers, adding your logo is great for brand recognition.
• Get creative with stocks – and make sure your design suits the stock you choose. Kraft stocks look incredible with black outlined designs, whereas cream stocks give a warmer tone to your artwork. Choosing a creative stock is a great way to add a premium touch to your cards, and they can enhance your design if you use them to their advantages.
